Hey, Boo! Meet the Ghost Bat Appliqué

Hey, Boo! Meet the Ghost Bat Appliqué

When you can't decide between making a ghost or a bat for October, you make both.

The Ghost Bat Appliqué pairs a ghost with bat wings and layered shapes that create the illusion of a glow. You’ll also get a coordinating “Hey, Boo!” appliqué, because I wasn’t going to pass up a ghost pun.

Creating the Glow

The glow effect comes from layering different colors behind the design. Use the purple-and-white combination shown, or choose colors that work with your project. A light gray ghost helps the white glow layer stand out.

Add it to a bag, a jacket, a trick-or-treat tote, or whatever last-minute Halloween make you’ve convinced yourself you have time to finish. I’m familiar with that particular kind of optimism.

Cut by Hand or Machine

The download includes PDF and SVG files, plus assembly tips to help you put the layers together. Print shop and projector files are included, too.

Use the PDFs to cut your pieces by hand or the SVGs with a compatible cutting machine. Choose your materials and colors, cut the shapes, and bring your little ghostie to life.

Go Behind the Seams

Want to see how this little ghost bat came together? I recorded myself drawing it in Affinity Designer, including the decisions, adjustments, and figuring-it-out parts.

It’s about 90 minutes of my actual design process. Bring a project and keep me company while I work.
